What are the corruption risks for Estonian media?

Transparency International Estonia organizes seminars in Tartu and Tallinn on the 24th and 27th of November to introduce the results of unique survey in Estonia – “Transparency in Estonian media”. Seminars on media ethics and investigative journalism deal with enhancing of investigative journalism and contemplate possibilities of corruption in journalism itself. “Journalism is doing thankworthy job reverberating corruption cases, but until now corruption risks of journalism have not been analyzed,” said Tarmu Tammerk, member of the board of TI Estonia. “We will present the first comprehensive analysis on conflict of interests and corrupting risks in journalism,” said Tammerk. “Also ways to promote investigative journalism and reverberating corruption cases with high public recognition will be discussed.” Survey was conducted by non-profit organization Analysis and Training Centre for Journalism and will be presented by Ragne Kõuts, lector of media surveys, University of Tartu. Corruption reflection through the eyes of law enforcement authorities is spoken by leading state prosecutor Lavly Lepp. Participants will discuss recommendations how to avoid conflict of interest among journalists. Seminars are organized by TI Estonia within the media project for national anti-corruption strategy and are funded by Ministry of Justice.
